Benjamin in Moscow

2020, 90 min

As they like to say in Hollywood – this is a true story.

It follows the facts.

In 1924, on the island of Capri, German-Jewish writer Walter Benjamin meets Asja Lacis, a Latvian who works in theatre. He falls in love with her.

Everything starts as a Kitschy romance. But vacation is over, they must part.

At the end of 1926, Benjamin travels to Moscow to conquer Asja finally – „like a fortress“.

His other aim is to orient himself politically. However, Asja is in sanatorium recovering from a nervous breakdown.

Her life-partner Bernhard Reich is constantly present. So a Triangel forms: Reich – Asja – Benjamin.

Their mutual feelings are ambiguous. It is uncertain who loves/hates whom.
